Abandoned. Port engine failed over Alps and unable to maintain height the mission was abandoned. Bombs jettisoned. Was attacked by 4 or 5 fighters these were evaded. Later attacked by FW190 – rear gunner got in a long burst and the fighter was seen to burst into flames.
