After bombing we were attacked by about 9 out of a formation of 18 FW190s. One or two concentrated on us. Hit by cannon in port inner, tail and main plane. I corkscrewed violently and W/Op broke his ankle. We were attacked again and rear turret hit and set on fire and gunner injured. I ordered crew to put on parachutes. We were attacked 30 seconds later and tracer was seen above starboard wing. Smoke was pouring out on port inner engine. I gave order to abandon aircraft. Rear gunner and and front gunner reported unable to get out of their turrets. The Bomb Aimer, instead of bailing out, went to the assistance of the front gunner. By this time I had control of the aircraft so cancelled bail out order. Mis upper gunner had already jumped. After feathering the port inner engine, the Bomb Aimer smashed into the rear turret and got the gunner out and manned the turret himself. The W/Op went back and manned the mid upper turret despite his broken ankle. We were attacked twice by heavy flak twice on return route. Asked for emergency landing at Ford and could only get starboard wheel down.
