At point of bombing aircraft was hit by heavy flak on port wing tip, spraying port side with shrapnel, blowing out the top forward panel of perspex on the starboard side and the starboard blister. Also cut of intercomm. Wireless Operator attempted to fix intercomm but aircraft was hit a second time, killing him instantly, the Navigator was badly wounded and the pilot had shrapnel wounds in the left upper arm and perspex showered in his face. Found an areodrome just past Horwich and attempted to land in fog. Emergency air system used to lower undercart. In heavy landing wheels collapsed and aircraft slewed of runway.
