Story:
Charles Surtis Cranmer McClure was a Rhodesian serving with 44 Sqn. He was Commissioned in Jan 1941 and given service number 88663. Promoted to F/O in Dec 1941 (same service number), and went on detachment in Jan 1942 to RAF Feltwell (same service number). However, when awarded the DFC in April 1942 his service number had changed to 80251. This service number was recorded when he was killed and used by the CWGC in their records.
