The squadron formed in September 1917 and served in army co-operation roles and policing in Ireland. It disbanded in 1919. It reformed in 1938 and was flying Hampdens at the start of the war. It equipped with Manchesters early in 1942 but these were soon replaced by the Lancaster. Sgt Jackson was awarded the Victoria Cross whilst flying Lancasters in 1944. The squadron disbanded in February 1946 and has not been reformed since.
